Strategic Football Development remains an integral part of Football Kenya Federation eight-year master plan, to this end, the federation has rolled out a number of activities and programs, key in ensuring the game’s long-term development and sustainability as enumerated below

1. Technical Director

The federation has acted as a catalyst in ensuring the sport’s developmental agenda is not only witnessed in all parts of the country but that the rollout, is also highly effective and efficient

This the Federation has done by hiring Andreas Spier, a Technical Director of great repute, to spearhead the Federation’s Technical Development Agenda

Mr. Spier, who will be in charge of both Youth Development and Grass-Root coaches training brings with him a wealth of over 15 years of knowledge and experience having worked in Germany, Romania, and Rwanda in the same capacity.

2.PET

Referees TrainingIn an effort aimed at improving officiating standards and creating capacity, the federation has embarked on conducting free Physical Endurance Test (PET) for match officials across all levels and from both genders.
Whereas, previously the process has been marred by a lack of transparency and accountability with a good number of participants required to part with a substantial amount of money before being shortlisted for the same, this administration is on record for conducting the most number of free PETs in the history of Kenyan football, with the sole aim of comprehensively developing the game at a minimal cost to the beneficiaries, match officials included.

3. Player Registration and Transfers

The federation has centralized player registration and transfers in an effort aimed at curbing age cheating and ensuring that all bonafide clubs benefit from player solidarity, development, and transfer fees, key in promoting transparency and accountability between clubs, players, and the federation

As of June 2016, the federation had transferred a total of 360 players and registered a total of 1485 male players, with 90 of these being amateurs

In women football, the federation as of the said date registered 420 players, with all of them being amateurs. It is important to note that this number is expected to go up as time goes by and more clubs and players become aware of the same.

4. Coaches Accreditation and Training

In an effort aimed at ensuring career progression for local coaches and safeguarding the local coaching industry against unfair competition, the federation has embarked on an ambitious plan of accrediting and training coaches at all levels

A first of its kind in Kenya, the accreditation aims to create, a real-time database of all coaches practicing in the country capturing their level of experience and qualifications.
The federation under the tutelage of the Technical Director in 2016 trained for FREE 2000 coaches in Basic/Advanced Basic Coaching Courses, 140 Coaches in CAF C with a further 140 to be trained by the end of 2017

Further, due to the demand for the CAF C license, the Federation carried out a commercial CAF C License course in June in an effort aimed at bridging the gap and creating coaching capacity in the country. A total of 38 coaches took part in the Course.

5. Club licensing

The federation following a directive by both FIFA and CAF successfully began the implementation of the club licensing process, which aims to professionalize football in the country.

The process which was rolled out in 2016 is on-going, with clubs set to be licensed each year.

6. 18 team league

As envisaged during the campaign period of 2015 the federation has been able to expand the top tier league from 16 to 18 in a bid to allow more players showcase their talent at the highest level and make the league more inclusive.
