Harambee Stars is set to take on Burundi in the first semifinal of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup Scheduled for Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu starting 3 pm.

In the run-up to the semis, Kenya edged out Rwanda 2-0 in the opening match played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, before being held to a barren draw by guest nation Libya in Machakos.

The third match against Zanzibar, likewise, ended in a barren draw. The host nation then upped the ante in the final Group A match against Tanzania, winning 1-0 courtesy of a first-half strike by Vincent Oburu.

Stars’ First Coach Paul Put is confident with the team’s preparations ahead of the match.

“We are ready to show the fans that we want to proceed. We will do everything possible to ensure that we get a positive result,” said the coach.

“The tournament gives me an opportunity to learn more about our local based players, and that is very important going forward,” he added.

Masud Injury

Striker Masud Juma will sit out the match against Burundi after picking a knock in the second match against Libya at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. He could, however, be available for selection if Kenya proceeds to the next round.

The other semifinal will see defending champions Uganda face off with Zanzibar. The match has been slated for Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu starting 3 pm.
