Ibinzo Girls from Kakamega sub-branch King’andole Queens from Busia, Ebbu Stars (Vihiga) and The Saints (Butere-Mumias) confirmed their places in Western Regional finals to be held at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega on January 12, and January 13, 2019, as Western branch held its final qualifiers over the weekend.

The four join Brenda Girls, Arch Bishop Njenga, Bukembe Friends and Lugari Blue Saints who were all identified after North Western Branch held its final set of games on 24-25 November, 2018.

On Saturday, Ibinzo Girls beat Butere Girls’ Red Commandoes 4-3 in post-match penalties at the Boma Grounds, Mumias to proceed. The two were tied 1-1 in normal time. Mary Macheso scored for Ibinzo as Faith Magina equalized for Red Commandoes at the stroke of half time.

The Saints from Butere-Mumias qualified at the Boma grounds after Kakamega’s Wakongwe were knocked out of the competition on technicalities.

On Sunday, King’andole Queens and Ebbu Stars grabbed the two final slots to Bukhungu after seeing off Lusengeli Secondary 2-1 and Busia Wolves 1-0, respectively. Celista Nabwire and Brenda Nekesa scored for King’andole Queens as Purity Minayo got the consolation for Lusengeli Secondary. Ezekiel Sunday’s first half strike for Ebbu Stars stopped Busia Wolves in their tracks.

The eight qualified teams are part of the 269 that had registered in Western region for grass root games that started in the last weekend of October, 2018
