Kenya has risen to position 78 globally in the latest FIFA rankings released today, 6 April 2017. This is an improvement from 88th place in March.
The substantial rise is attributed to Harambee Stars’ results in friendly matches against the Uganda Cranes and DR Congo played in Machakos last month. Stars were forced to a 1-1 draw by Uganda, who were ranked 74th, before edging out DR Congo 2-1. The latter, ranked 38th in March, has since dropped to position 41 while Uganda has moved up two places to position 72.
Harambee Stars’ next assignment is a friendly match against Malawi at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on 18th April 2017. The match will feature only local based players as a build up to the upcoming Africa Nations Championships(CHAN) early next year. Kenya is set to host the continental showpiece.
