Football Kenya Federation in conjunction with the German Cooperation (GIZ)’s, regional project “Sports for Development Africa”, held its first symposium on Women, Sport, and development in Kenya yesterday, September 4, 2017, beginning 10 am at the Hilton Hotel Nairobi

The symposium was attended by key stakeholders in sports and gender in Kenya including Nairobi Woman representative Esther Passaris, FKF Vice President Doris Petra, former New York Marathon Champion Tegla Loroupe, and Radio Presenter Carol Radull, among others. Also in attendance was FKF CEO Robert Muthomi

The symposium was aimed at sharing opinions, ideas, challenges, and opportunities of the
female side of sports and to evoke a discussion on equal opportunities for both men and
women in sports in Kenya, in the present and in the future

    Women Premier League

FKF Vice President, Doris Petra pointed out the Federation’s commitment to Women football, noting that the Senior National Team and the Junior U20 Girls team have been given a fair chance in her administration

“We are working on uplifting the Women Premier League, Women Division One League and the National Teams. It is a continuous process,” said Madam Doris

“We want to create better partnerships that can support the leagues (Women Premier League and Women Division One League),” she added

CEO Robert Muthomi noted that the Federation has pumped more funds into Women Football, exceeding FIFA’s 15% threshold. He, however, decried some teams’ inability to honor league matches

“We need to get more money into the Women’s game so that we can keep the teams playing,” he said
