2017 finalists Kariobangi Sharks are through to the round of 16 of the FKF SportPesa Shield tournament at the expense of Wazito. This comes after a 4-2 win in post-match penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time, in the match played on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Camp Toyoyo.

Derrick Onyango marked his debut for Wazito with a goal that was cancelled out by a Hillary Otieno header in the second half.

Sanneh Ebrima would then put Sharks in the lead, but a goal in stoppage time by captain Oliver Kilonzo forced the match into post-match penalties.

In an early 1 pm kickoff, experience laden Leysa FC upset FKF National Super League side KCB 2-1 to make a maiden appearance in the FKF SportPesa Shield round of 16.

Dennis Maina powered in a strike that saw Leysa head to the breather on the front foot against all odds. A second-half fightback by the NSL side saw Harry Gentle score an own goal in the dying minutes of the match, but its Leysa who had the last laugh when Justus Anene sent a powerful drive past Juma Mpongo in the KCB goal deep in stoppage time.

In Kericho, KPL side Posta Rangers went through to the next round after a 1-0 win over Division One side Kisumu Hotstars while Tusker beat Bandari 1-2 at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

Mwatate United, meanwhile, will grace the round of 16 after their would be opponents Ushuru failed to turn up for the match.
