Boost for Women football as FKF Vice President secures CECAFA seat

    Women football in Kenya got a shot in the arm following the election of FKF Vice President Madam Doris Petra to the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Executive Committee.

    Petra who was elected unanimously during the 2017 CECAFA Annual General Meeting, held in Nairobi on Saturday, December 2, 2017, pledged to leverage on his new position as a woman representative in the CECAFA Executive Committee, to further develop women football in the country.

    “I want to thank all the CECAFA delegates for believing in my ability to propel women football to greater heights not only in Kenya but also in the region,” said the FKF Vice president.

    “As I embark on my new role, I want to assure both aspiring and active women players in the CECAFA region and beyond that, I will endeavour to spearhead the development of the sport across all levels,” added Petra.

    The CECAFA Congress convening here at Four Point Hotel in Nairobi City this Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 has elected the five new Executive Committee members to run the region’s top football office for the next two calendar years.

    Other members who were elected alongside Petra include Abdiqaani Arab Said (Somalia), Aimable Habimana (Burundi), Juneid Basha Tilmo (Ethiopia) and Wallace Karia (Tanzania).
    The five, who were all unanimously elected, will now join CECAFA President Eng. Mutasim Gafar of Sudan to run the regions Apex football body.
