Gor Mahia Youth and Mukumu Boys are set to face off in the semifinal of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom National finals following their triumph in the quarterfinals played on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Kakamega.
Mukumu Boys were 3-1 winners over Coast Region Champions Shimba Hills while Gor Mahia Youth overcame North Eastern Champions Al Hayat 4-0.
The other quarterfinals saw Rift Valley Champions Kapenguria Heroes edge out Mwingi Juniors (Eastern region) 4-0, while Ombek Red Devils (Nyanza) needed a 5-4 post-match penalty win to scrap past Central region champions Euronuts. The tie had ended 3-3 in regulation time.
Nairobi Region Champions Beijing Raiders heavily lost 7-1 to Western Region Champions Arch Bishop Njenga Girls, while Eastern Champions Ngakaa Talent Academy also fell to Plateau Queens (Nyanza) on a similar scoreline.
Tartar Girls from Rift Valley are also through to the semis after a 3-2 win over Coast region champions Waa Girls. Limuru Starlets were earlier, during the draw held in Nairobi, handed a bye to the semifinals.
The Girls’ semifinals will be played on Friday, March 23, 2018, with the Boys’ semis slated for Saturday, both at the Bukhungu Stadium. The finals will take center stage on Sunday.
A Ksh 1million prize and a chance to spend a week with Kenyan and Tottenham Hotspurs Midfielder Victor Wanyama in the UK is at stake for the overall winner. Each semifinalist, meanwhile, is set to take home ksh 250,000 while the finalists will each pocket Ksh 500,000.
