Newly promoted Green Commandos will be out for a maiden win in the second tier when they face Isibania on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
The Kakamega High School side has lost thrice and shared the spoils two times, a statistic that sees them ranked a lowly 18th on the log.
Coach Brenden Mwinamo is however happy with the team’s style of play and is of the view that a maiden win will open the floodgates.
“We are young in the league but we are working extra hard to improve our performance,” said coach Mwinamo following Green Commandos 1-0 loss to Ushuru in their last match.
“Competition (in the NSL) is very stiff, but once we get our first win, things will be easier for us,” he added.
Isibania coach Dan Musta, meanwhile, has intimated his desire to get all three points from the match, but acknowledged that it may not be easy at Commandos’ backyard.
“We have previously played Green Commandos (in the third tier Division One League) and they are a good side,” said coach Musta.
“We will however look to build on our 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars last weekend, and hopefully we can finish the first leg among the top five teams,” he added.
Meanwhile, league leaders Kibera Black Stars will host Kenya Police in one of two matches set to be aired live on Bamba Sports on Saturday, from Camp Toyoyo.
Black Stars suffered their first loss of the season against KCB and will be out for a swift turnaround of fortunes against a Kenya Police side that has not tasted defeat this season.
Earlier on at the same venue, Nairobi Stima will host Modern Coast Rangers in the first live match of the weekend, set to kick off at 12 pm. Stima trails Modern Coast Rangers by two points, and will be looking to capitalize on home advantage against the Coastal side.
Meanwhile at the Thika sub-county Stadium, second placed Bidco United will face a rejuvenated Administration Police, while GFE 105 will welcome Western Stima to the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.
Ushuru will also be on the road to face Coast Stima at the Mbaraki Sports Club while KCB will be up against bogey side St Joseph Youth at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
On Sunday, Kisumu All Stars will host Nakuru All Stars at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu while at Camp Toyoyo, Nairobi City Stars will be hoping to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Isibania when they face Kangemi All Stars.
