The National U20 Women team edged out Ethiopia 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier match played on September 30, 2017, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to sail through to the next round

Corazon Aquino put the junior starlets on the front foot in the 10th minute after good work from the left flank by Gentrix Shikangwa. Ethiopia would, however, restore parity at the stroke of halftime from the spot after goalkeeper Lilian Awour brought down Mirkat Feleke in the 18-yard box

Barely five minutes after the restart, Gentrix Shikangwa capitalized on a goalkeeping mishap to head in the winner from close range. Kenya would then dictate proceedings for the better part of the second half, effectively denying Ethiopia any chance of a comeback

Kenya had earlier on September 17, 2017, held Ethiopia to a 2-2 draw in the first leg match played at the Hawassa International Stadium in Ethiopia
