Kariobangi Sharks dump out Sofapaka, Vihiga books Tusker in quarters

    Kariobangi Sharks is through to the quarterfinal of the GOtv Shield after making light work of favourites Sofapaka in a match played today, July 23, 2017, at the Nyayo National Stadium. The match ended 3-1

    Wazito, Bandari, Sony Sugar, Tusker, Vihiga United and Division One side Eldoret Youth have also made it to the quarterfinals

    Sharks set up a quarterfinal date with Eldoret Youth after edging out favourites Sofapaka. Paul Kamau gave Sharks a 1-0 halftime lead, capitalising on a goalkeeping mishap by Sofapaka goalkeeper George Opiyo. Masoud Juma then doubled Sharks lead after another error by the Sofapaka goalie, who was having a rather bad day in office. The Harambee Stars striker then made it three with eight minutes to go, to confirm Sharks place in the quarters. Sofapaka got a consolation though Umaru Kasumba, who headed in a perfectly weighted cross by Abdulatif Omar

    Meanwhile, Vihiga United felled Kenya Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz on post-match penalties to set up a quarterfinal date with defending champions Tusker, in one of six Round of 16 matches played on Saturday, July 22, 2017

    Vihiga were winning the match in normal time, courtesy of a strike by Rashid Kyambadde in the first half, only to be pegged back by an equaliser from the spot by Homeboyz goalkeeper Michael Wanyika in the 82nd minute. Vihiga however, won 5-4 on penalties to go through to the quarters

    Wazito also went past GFE 105 in one of two matches staged at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium. Kennedy Ayako scored both of Wazito’s goals. The team will now face the winner of the match between AFC Leopards and Bidco United, scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at the Thika sub-county Stadium. Earlier on, Division One Zone B side Eldoret Youth dispatched their Zone A counterparts Savannah FC 3-2 to proceed. Kevin Cheti, Joseph Oyugi and Philip Okoth were on the scoresheet for Eldoret Youth

    At the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, Noah Abich scored a last gasp goal from the spot to see Bandari through to the next round at the expense of Nakumatt. Bandari had raced into an early 2-0 lead courtesy of a header by Anthony Wambani and a goal by Abdalla Hassan. Kepha Aswani, however, halved the deficit on the half hour mark. Nakumatt then equalised through Boniface Akenga in the second half but it is Bandari who had the last laugh, Noah Abich netting an equaliser from the spot with less than a minute left

    Bandari will be up against Sony Sugar in the quarterfinal. The latter edged out Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in Awendo. Samuel Olare scored in stoppage time to send the Millers through to the next round

    AFC Leopards

    The last match of the Round of 16 pitting AFC Leopards against Bidco United will be played on Wednesday, July 26 at the Thika sub-county Stadium. AFC Leopards will be looking to get themselves into winning form against the second-tier outfit. Bidco United is currently 17th on the NSL log with 11 points from 18 matches
