Michael Olunga struck twice as Kenya twice came from behind to pick up a 3-2 win over Tanzania in their second Group C match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations played on June 28, 2019, at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

Tanzania took only six minutes to take the lead, Simon Msuva tapping home from a rebound after Patrick Matasi had failed to handle Mbwana Samatta’s left footed shot.

Harambee Stars, who had enjoyed the better share of possession, found an equalizer courtesy of an exquisite Michael Olunga bicycle kick.

It didn’t last long, however. Mbwana Samatta restored Tanzania’s lead in the 41st minute after a defensive mishap left goalkeeper Patrick Matasi flatfooted. The first half ended 2-1 in favor of the Taifa Stars.

Kenya came back a more rejuvenated side, and out of a well taken set piece, Johanna Omollo restored parity with a header at the near post to make it 2-2.

The goal arose fighting spirit from the Stars, and as the match entered into the final ten minutes, Michael Olunga would prove his worth, netting Kenya’s third, which eventually turned out to be the winner, with the influential forward also taking home the Man of the Match prize.

Kenya is now on three points, similar to second-placed Senegal, who however have a superior goal difference.

Stars will take on Senegal in their final match scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019, at the Air Defense Stadium.
