FKF President, Nick Mwendwa, has on Tuesday, October 5, 2019, met Parliaments’ Departmental Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism at Parliament buildings.
The FKF boss expressed his frustration at the Sports Fund and Spirts Ministry’s inefficiency that has seen the Federation miss out on funding for the national teams, Harambee Stars and Harambee Starlets.
Mwendwa also shed more light on the Federation’s sources of funding, while bringing to the fore why Government needed to fund the senior teams.
“Harambee Starlets are supposed to head to Zambia for the Olympic qualifiers but they have no assurance if they will attend the game,” said Mr. Mwendwa.
“The men’s team is training and heading home instead of being in camp. This is done to at least keep the team in shape before the 2021 AFCON qualifiers,” he continued.
“We have continuously written to the ministry to request for funds, but unfortunately, our requests have gone unanswered. ”
Other sports federations, among them the Athletics, Rugby, Basketball, and Volleyball federations, also had a sitting with the committee later in the day. The committee promised to look into the matter and arrive to the bottom of the matter.
