The National U20 Football team, Rising Stars, started residential training on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the MISC Kasarani warm-up pitch, ahead of the upcoming 2019 U20 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
The team is scheduled to take part in a friendly match against Tanzania on Saturday, March 3, 2018, as well a two-legged friendly against Egypt in mid-March. This is in preparation for the upcoming U20 AFCON Qualifiers, where the Rising Stars are scheduled to face Rwanda in the first round slated for early April.
“These friendlies will provide an opportunity for our junior players to not only experience international matches but also learn vital aspects of the game that are key to their future football development,” said FKF General Secretary/CEO Robert Muthomi concerning the planned friendlies.
“Youth development remains key in our long-term agenda. We intend to find quality players within the required age bracket who will form the backbone of our future National Teams,” he explained.
Should Kenya edge past Rwanda in the first Round, the Rising Stars will face Zambia in the second Round slated for between May 11 and May 13, 2018.
Close to 100 players, scouted from the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom as well as FKF Leagues, had a chance to audition for a place in the team, in a four-day selection exercise at the MISC Kasarani, with a final squad of 30 players selected for the upcoming assignments.
