WPL Review: Thika Queens, Vihiga Queens lead respective WPL leagues

    Thika Queens and Vihiga Queens lead the FKF Women Premier League Zone A and Zone B respectively after round 12 matches played on Saturday, November 11, and Sunday, November 12, 2017.

    Zone A leaders Thika Queens stretched their lead at the top of the log to eight points with a 4-0 win over Spedag at the Thika sub-county Stadium. Mercy Achieng and Fauzia Kassim scored a brace apiece.

    The Thika based side is top of the log with 32 points, having won 10, drawn 2, and lost none of the 12 matches the team has played. Second on the log is Makolanders with 24 points, while Mombasa Olympic comes in third with 19 points from 12 matches.

    Zone A Standings



    In Zone B, Vihiga Queens is at the summit, with a three-point margin over second placed Oserian Ladies. Vihiga has amassed 30 points from 11 matches, having won 10 and lost only one of the 12 matches the team has played. Vihiga Queens, as well as Vihiga Leeds and Bulemia, are yet to share the spoils this season.

    Vihiga Queens strolled past Wadadia 6-2 in their last match played at the Mumias Sports Complex. Teresa Engesha netted five times for Vihiga, with Corazon Aquino notching a sixth in the 77th minute. Ruth Chebungei and Merab Ochieng were on target for Wadadia

    In the second match of the day at the same venue, Vihiga Leeds edged out Palos Ladies 2-1. Pauline Musungu hit a brace for Leeds, with Sarah Juma netting a late consolation for Palos.
