The National U20 Girls team came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Ethiopia in the first leg match of the first round 2018 Africa U20 World Cup Qualifiers played today, September 17, 2017, at the Hawassa International Stadium in Ethiopia

Ethiopia raced into a 2-0 halftime lead, courtesy of goals by Mirkat Felek and Alamnesh Germew. The away team, however, gave a spirited fightback that would eventually pay off in the 86th minute, when Captain Corazon Aquino fired in from the spot to half the deficit. Maureen Khakasa then scored a stoppage-time equalizer to ensure the U20 Starlets returned with a two away goal advantage

Technical Lead Musa Otieno, who also doubles up as the Harambee Stars Assistant Coach, lauded the team’s fighting spirit

Our focus now is on the second leg and hopefully, we will get positive results and progress to the second round,” said Musa Otieno

The return match has been scheduled for September 29, 2017, in Kenya, with the aggregate winner set to face the winner of the match between Algeria and Ghana in the second round
