NSL Review: Vihiga stay top; Wazito, Stima Ushuru keep the chase

    Vihiga United edged out Bidco United while Wazito, Nairobi Stima and Ushuru also recorded vital wins to keep the chase in FKF National Super League matches played yesterday, July 16 and today, July 17, 2017

    Bidco United travelled to the Mumias Sports Complex on the back of a two match winning run but found it tough against Vihiga United, going down 2-1. Patrick Okullo and Benard Ochieng were on target for Vihiga United with David Juma scoring a consolation for Bidco United. Vihiga maintains top spot with 38 points from 17 matches, with a goal difference of 17 goals. The team has scored 24 and conceded only seven, the least in the league

    Vihiga’s closest challengers, Wazito FC and Nairobi Stima, also recorded wins in a double header staged at the Camp Toyoyo grounds. The first match of the day saw Nairobi Stima floor FC Talanta 3-1. Goals by Ivan Anguyo, Joel Bataro and Victor Ochamo did the job for Stima. Vincent Wasambo scored a consolation for FC Talanta in the 77th minute. Nairobi Stima is third on the log with 38 points, similar to league leaders Vihiga United. Stima, however, have an inferior goal difference of 14 goals despite conceding only eight times this season, the second meanest defence

    Later on at 4.15 pm, Wazito made a statement with a 1-0 win over Kibera Black Stars, their 12th win this season. Oliver Kilonzo thumped in a header off a free kick by Joakim Omollo in the 12th minute, a lead Wazito held onto until full time. Wazito is second on the log with 38 points. The team has recorded 12 wins, the highest in the league this season, and a goal difference of 16 goals, having scored 30 and conceded 14

    Ushuru also dispatched struggling MOSCA 2-1 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to keep the pressure on the leading pack. Barrack Odhiambo and Andrew Murunga were on target for Ushuru with Olesu Tetieh scoring a consolation for MOSCA. Ushuru is fourth on the log with 37 points, only one less than league leaders Vihiga United. MOSCA meanwhile, is rock bottom with a paltry four points. The Ministry of Sports sponsored side has not won a single match this season


    Earlier at the same venue, KCB edged out Nakuru based St Joseph Youth 2-1 to renew their promotion push. The win was a vital one for The Bankers after a humiliating 3-0 loss at the hands of Wazito in midweek. Kennedy Owino and Ousmane Luiz were on target for KCB to help them to fifth on the log with 34 points from 17 matches. St Joseph Youth meanwhile, is 18th on the 19 team log with only seven points

    At the Narok County Stadium, Kenya Police edged out visiting Modern Coast Rangers 2-0. Meanwhile, at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Palos shrugged off a loss in midweek to Ushuru to overcome Administration Police 2-1


    On Saturday, Nakuru All Stars got a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of GFE 105 at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. Isibania, on the other hand, found it hard against a rejuvenated Nairobi City Stars, losing 2-1 at the Ruaraka Grounds
