Defending Champions Tusker FC are out of contention for the 2017 GOtv Shield after a 2-0 loss to Vihiga United in the third Quarterfinal match played today, August 20, at the Nyayo National Stadium. AFC Leopards is through to the next round after humbling Wazito 7-1

Tusker’s main undoing was creating chances and scoring. The defending champions were in control for the better part of the match but could not break down a resolute Vihiga defense, led by recent Harambee Stars call-up Bernard Ochieng. Charles Okwemba gave Vihiga the lead from the spot after Marlon Tangauzi was adjudged to have handled the ball in a goal mouth melee, the first half ending 1-0

On resumption, Tusker went all out in search of an equalizer. Vihiga United, meanwhile, resorted to sitting back while hitting Tusker on the counter. A second goal would then come late in the match when Dennis Lugalia nodded into an empty net from close-range after good work from the left flank by Godfrey Airo

AFC Leopards

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards whitewashed Wazito 7-1 in the second match played at the same venue. Ingwe raced into an early 2-0 lead courtesy of two goals from the spot by Alexis Kitenge. Marcellus Ingotsi then headed in a third goal to give Ingwe a 3-0 halftime lead

In the second half, Ingwe capitalized on a bad day in office for Wazito goalkeeper Stephen Njunge to score four more goals through Marcellus Ingotsi, Mike Kibwage, Samuel Ndungu and Alexis Kitenge

Ingwe will now face Vihiga United in the semifinal, scheduled for September 23, 2017. The other semifinal will pit Sony Sugar against Kariobangi Sharks. Sony edged out Bandari 3-1 while Kariobangi Sharks gave Division One side Eldoret Youth a 5-0 hiding
