NSL Review: Wazito cement top spot as Isibania, Ushuru also record wins

Wazito cemented their place at the top of the log with a 3-0 win over Nakuru All Stars at the Camp Toyoyo grounds in match week 12 of the FKF National Super league. There were also wins for Isibania, Ushuru and GFE 105. Vihiga United’s match against Administration Police was however abandoned

Former Kenya Premier League side Ushuru had temporarily risen to the top spot on Saturday 06 May after edging out Bidco United 3-0 at the Thika sub-county Stadium. Ushuru has so far won seven, drawn three and lost only one match, amassing 24 points from 11 games

Three matches were played at Camp Toyoyo on Saturday. Nairobi City Stars was held to a 3-3 draw by St Joseph Youth in the first match played at 9 am.  The latter twice came from behind to force City Stars to a draw, halting a five-match losing streak


At 2 pm, newbies Isebania registered their third win in a row with a 1-2 win over MOSCA. Jared Kiage and Julius Waitere were on the score sheet for Isibania while MOSCA got their consolation through Michael Karanja

Later at 4 pm, Talanta came from behind to settle for a 1-1 draw with visiting Modern Coast Rangers. Francis Ochola had put Modern Coast on the front foot in the 17th minute but Eric Kapaito restored parity in the 35th minute

On Sunday, GFE 105 returned to winning ways with a 0-1 win over Kenya Police at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. Boniface Mukhekhe gave the visitors an early lead, which they held onto to break a six-match winless streak

Nairobi Stima rose to third on the log despite only getting a point off Palos in a match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu. Stima has now won six, drawn four and lost only one match out of eleven


At the Camp Toyoyo grounds, Kibera Black Stars and Agro Chemicals played out a 1-1 draw before Wazito edged out Nakuru All Stars 3-0 to cement their place at the summit

Eric Kinuthia netted a 38th-minute opener for Kibera Black Stars, but it was canceled out by Notikelly Masasi just before half time. In the second match, goals by Austin Ochieng, Eric Odhiambo, and Piston Mutamba did it for Wazito

The match between Vihiga United and Administration Police was abandoned after AP players protested a decision by the match referee. A decision on the outcome will be made by the Football Kenya Federation in due course

Wazito is now at the summit with 25 points from 12 games, one ahead of Ushuru. The latter, however, has a game in hand. Nairobi Stima is third with 22 points while KCB and Vihiga United are fourth and fifth respectively 21 points each but the latter has an inferior goal difference. MOSCA is still in search of a first season win while Bidco United has slipped to 18th with a paltry five points. Isibania is up to tenth with 17 points after their third win in a row, against MOSCA
