WPL Review: Thika Queens, Vihiga Queens top Women Premier League

    After four rounds of matches played between 15 April and 3 May 2017, Thika Queens and Vihiga Queens, having not tasted defeat yet, are on top of the Women Premier League Zone A and Zone B respectively

    Vihiga Queens has won four matches out of four, amassing 12 points. The Vihiga County sponsored side has scored 25 goals; seven against Nyamira Starlets, eight against Vihiga Leeds, seven against Bulemia and three against Palos Ladies. The only goal the team has conceded was in an 8-1 win against Vihiga Leeds

    Zone A leaders Thika Queens, on the other hand, have won thrice against Makolanders, Kayole Starlets, and Spedag, and drawn once against Soccer Queens. The Thika-based side has scored nine goals and conceded only two, consequently topping the eight-team Zone A league with 10 points

    Zone A Side Soccer Sisters and Nyamira Starlets from Zone B are the only teams that have not mastered a win yet. Soccer Sisters have lost three matches against Makolanders, Mombasa Olympic and Mathare United Women, and drawn once against Kayole Starlets. Nyamira Starlets, on the other hand, have lost all the three matches the team has played against Vihiga Queens, Wadadia and Eldoret Falcons

    Round 5 matches will be played on Saturday 10 July. Kayole Starlets will be up against Spedag at the MYSA grounds while Mombasa Olympic will host Makolanders at the Mbaraki Sports Club. Thika Queens will host Mathare United Women at the Thika sub-county Stadium while at Camp Toyoyo Soccer Sisters will be up against Soccer Queens. In Zone B, Eldoret Falcons will welcome Oserian Ladies at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret while at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Palos Ladies will play host to Vihiga Leeds. Wadadia will play Vihiga Queens at the Mumias Sports Complex while Bulemia will be taking on Nyamira Starlets in Busia

    Women Division 1 League

    In the Women Division 1 League, the second-tier women competition, Gaspo Youth Top Zone A with 9 points while Nyuki Starlets are at the summit of Zone B with 10 points. The league is composed of 14 teams in two Zones.

    Gaspo Youth is closely followed by Kibera Girls Soccer Academy at second place with nine points, similar to Gaspo, but with an inferior goal difference. Kilifi Queens, Golden Angels, Limuru Starlets, Kiambu Starlets and JUTAM complete third to seventh place in that order

    In Zone B, league leaders Nyuki Starlets are closely followed by Trans Nzoia Falcons with six points. Gusii Starlets, Solasa Stima Queens, Kendu Bay Starlets, Baringo Starlets and CHRISC St. Elizabeth are ranked third to seventh place in that order
