Gor Mahia will take on Tanzanian side Yanga in their third Group D match of the CAF Confederations Cup on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the MISC Kasarani starting at 7 pm.
The Kenyan Premier League defending champions got two points off their opening two matches, against Rayon Sports away and USM Alger at home, and will be looking to get maximum points off Yanga, who were held to a barren draw by Rayon Sports in their last match.
Coach Dylan Kerr has expressed optimism in his charges ahead of the match, noting that despite missing a few players, his squad is up to the task.
“My players have the right mentality ahead of this match. We have always created chances, we’ll try not to concede and I’m confident we’ll get a positive outcome,” said coach Kerr.
“Joash (Onyango) is suspended. Boniface (Oluoch) is carrying an injury and Mustafa (Francis) will be away due to personal issues. The players I have at my disposal are however equal to the task,” clarified the coach, who will also be without George Odhiambo and Ernest Wendo.
Yanga assistant coach Noel Mwandila, on his part, noted that his charges were coming up against a formidable side, but exuded confidence that his charges can soak in the pressure.
“We are coming up against a good side. We’ve seen what they’ve done in the SportPesa Super Cup as well as the CECAFA Club Championships,” noted coach Mwandila.
“Our preparations, however, have been adequate and I think we are ready to face the resistance and get a positive result to boost our chances of qualifying to the next round,” he added.
Gor Mahia is second in Group D with two points, two shy of leaders USM Alger. Rayon Sports is third with two points while Yanga is fourth with one point.
