The second phase of the FIFA/FKF Pilot Project for Women football development, to be hosted in Nairobi, will officially get underway on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the Utalii Hotel.
This follows the project’s successful rollout in Mombasa last week, where close to 40 sports teachers and grass root coaches benefited and were duly awarded coaching certification.
Participants will be taken through basic coaching skills (theory and practical) as well as the Laws of the Game, under the tutelage of FIFA Instructor Jacqueline Shipanga.
Kisumu will then host the course next week, with a referees training also lined up in Meru later in December.
Branch Women Representatives will also be taken through leadership workshops to equip them with skills that will help them better coordinate the activities within their respective branches.
About the FIFA Pilot Project
In 2016, the Kenya National football team, Harambee Starlets, was the most active national team. FIFA would thus select Kenya to pilot a new women’s football development program where the World Governing Body aims to increase participation of women in football.
Women Football expert Rachel Pavlou, in May 2018, toured Kenya to assess our Women football landscape and through her findings, Kenya is set to benefit from close to KES 100 Million in funding from FIFA for women football development.
FKF will through the funding undertake coaching courses, referees training and leadership workshops for former and current women footballers.
The Federation will also initiate U13/U15 leagues through partnerships with Primary Schools, which offer a conducive environment for young female footballers to hone their talent.
