White Rhinos and Al Ahly (Boys), as well as Nakuru West Queens and Bomet Queens (girls), became the latest teams to qualify for Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Rift Valley regional finals set for the Eldoret Showground on 23-24 March 2019.
The four came through at the close of Central Rift and South Rift FKF Branch finals held on 23-24 February 2019.
They join Solidarity Boys and Kitale Queens who qualified earlier from North West Rift branch.
South Rift
On Saturday, at the Kpchimchim Secondary school grounds, Bomet Queens made it for their first regional finals after topping a four-team pool at the close of round robin games.
Bomet Queens were unbeaten on the day after seeing off Tulwet and Ainamoi Starlets by identical 2-0 wins before knocking out Fanaka Girls from Narok 5-0 in their final game.
At the Kericho Green stadium on Sunday, White Rhinos hit home team Kaptoboito Galarc 4-0 to book their title to Eldoret. The two booked the Sunday showdown after winning their respective pool games at the same venue on Saturday.
The Kericho games attracted girls’ and boys’ champions from Narok, Kericho, Bureti, Transmara and Bomet sub-branches.
Central Rift
At the Afraha Stadium, it was second time lucky for Kajiado’s Al Ahly who clinched the boys title after seeing off home team ASEC 4-3 in post-match penalties. The two had drawn 0-0 at the end of regulation time.
In the last edition, Al Ahly made it to the final only to be seen off in post-match penalties by Nakuru AllStars. They had rallied from 3-1 down to tie the regular game 3-3.
Earlier on, Nakuru West Queens tore apart Ngong based Achievers from Kajiado sub branch 4-0 for the girls’ title.
The Nakuru games attracted seven boys as many girls’ winners from its seven branches; Kajiado, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Koibatek, Baringo, Samburu and Naivasha.
North Rift pending
Just one more boys and girls team are yet to qualify for the Rift regional games.
This will be provided once the fourth branch in Rift Valley – North Rift – completes its games on the weekend of 9-10 March, 2010.
Games in the branch took a break on the weekend of 23-24 February, but will return to pick its boys and girls winners in Keiyo, Marakwet and Uasin Gishu sub branches to join those in Nandi South and Nandi North.
