Football Kenya Federation will be on Saturday, March 16, 2019, officially roll out an Elite Youth League, which pits top academies in Nairobi against Each other.
The pilot program, whose second phase will see academies from outside the Capital also incorporated, will have two categories, U15 and U13.
“We have a disparity in the quality of academies that take part in the mainstream FKF U13/15 leagues that are run by the sub-branches,” said FKF Youth Committee Chairman Chris Amimo.
“It is for this reason that we are rolling out this elite league, which is also an avenue for us to scout talent for our junior national teams,” he added.
The elite league is comprised of 12 academies, among them Vapour Sports, Kamukunji All-Stars, Ligi Ndogo, Mukuru Talent and Young United.
Diamond FC, Kick it Kenya, Acakoro, Kariobangi Sharks U15, Uweza, and Mathare Talent Academy are also part of the league.
The National U15 team, which is housed on a homeschooling program at the Federation’s National Centre of Excellence, has also been drafted into the league as the team prepares to take part in the MIC Football Tournament in Spain, in April 2019.
Ligi Ndogo will play Acakoro in the leagues opening match on Saturday at the Marist Grounds starting 9 am. Three more matches will be played at the same venue in the first week of action.
