The Kenya U20 National team, the Rising Stars, is through to the final of the CECAFA U20 Championships in Uganda following their 1-0 win over Eritrea in the semis played on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
Yoseif Mebrahtu scored an own goal off a hard cross by forward Patrick Otieno, with only five minutes of regulation time left on the clock, to see the Rising Stars through to the final, one they are set to face Tanzania.
Kenya had earlier in the quarters come from behind to eliminate Burundi 2-1, and it is now all set for the final, set to be played on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the FUFA Technical Center starting at 4 pm.
“I must congratulate the boys for showing great character in all the matches we have played. The semifinal (against Eritrea) was specifically tougher but my players played their hearts out, and I am pleased with the outcome,” said coach Stanley Okumbi.
“We have an even tougher challenge in the final and I am confident that if we give a good account of ourselves as we have done since the tournament started, we can take home a positive result,” he added.
The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in their Group B tie, with Tanzania only carrying the Group bragging rights on fair play rule following a tie in points and goal difference.
