Kenya U20 national team coach Stanley Okumbi has played down his sides big win over Ethiopia in the opening match of the CECAFA U20 Championships on Monday.
The Rising Stars went top of Group C courtesy of a goal apiece from Benson Omala, Ronald Reagan, and Enock Wanyama.
Coach Okumbi, however, demands more of his charges, if they are to qualify for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations for the first time ever.
“I think we still need to push more. We have our final match of the group against Sudan which we need to give our maximum to get all 3 points,” implored the former Harambee Stars coach.
“In the first 15 minutes we were a bit slow, but we managed to keep a clean sheet. Thereafter, I can confidently say we were on top of the game, and the boys showed character and desire to win the game. Collectively, we played a great game,” he said.
The Rising Stars face Sudan in their final Group C match on Friday, after which the winner from the Group will come up against the winner of Group B, which consists of Uganda, South Sudan, and Burundi.
Semifinal and final matches have been scheduled for November 30, and December 2, 2020, respectively.
The finalists shall gain automatic qualification to the Africa U20 Cup of Nations set to take place in February 20201, in Mauritania.
