Gor Mahia has edged Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in the FKF Premier League round one action on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Nyayo stadium.
In the first half, both teams tied at naught scores. The 8th minute saw Gor Mahia’s Peter Lwasa’s corner kick attempt, kicked out of the danger zone by Nzoia Sugar’s defense, maintaining the tempo of the game, which also led to Nzoia Sugar’s Vincent Mahiga taking a corner kick that was tamed by the Gor Mahia defense.
George Odhiambo tried to secure a goal for Gor Mahia in the 36th minute, however, the ball went just shy of the goalpost.
After the half-time break, Benson Omala converted a free-kick in the pen area which opened the scores in the 52nd minute, giving Gor Mahia a 1-0 lead.
In the 63rd minute, Gor Mahia brought in fresh legs as they subbed out George Odhiambo who was replaced by Bonface Oluoch. Ten minutes later, Gor Mahia’s Sydney Wahongo was subbed out and was replaced by John Ochieng.
A head-on collision injury in the 77th minute saw Gor Mahia temporarily play with 10 men after Ernest Wendo collided with Nzoia Sugar’s Steve Otieno who was replaced by Elisha Wekesa.
Eight minutes were added after regulation time. Ernest Wendo returned to the game in the 95th minute, and Nzoia Sugar brought in Ian Simiyu for Joseph Muriuki in the 98th minute.
The final whistle sealed the scores at 1-0, with Gor Mahia earning their first win of the season.
Meanwhile, at Ulinzi Sports Complex, AFC Leopards beat Ulinzi Stars 2-0 and at Bukhungu Stadium, Tusker edged past Kakamega Homeboyz 2-1.
