Football Kenya Federation has asked top-flight coaches to lead from the front to protect the integrity of the Kenyan top-flight league.
FKF CEO Barry Otieno asked the coaches to lead the charge against match-fixing and doping.
“This league belongs to all of us, we need to protect it. We need to protect our players, if coaches lead players will follow” Otieno said.
The FKF CEO was speaking during a meeting with top-tier league coaches at Kandanda House.
Tusker’s Robert Matano, KCB’s Zedekiah Otieno, John Baraza of Kakamega Homeboyz, Salim Babu of Nzoia Sugar, and William Muluya of Kariobangi Sharks attended the meeting. Gor Mahia’s Jonathan McKinstry, Bidco’s Anthony Akhulia, and Bandari’s Anthony Kimani also attended the session.
“We will engage ADAK to educate our clubs and players on what is required of them in terms of doping. When you are an athlete you must take care of what medicines you use. A regular drug can get you into trouble, “ the CEO added.
The meeting also discussed coaches’ accreditation, coaches’ welfare, officiating, and anti-doping regulations.
“When football stakeholders come together around one table and exchange ideas we will make progress,” Bandari tactician Kimani said.
“We want to see more of this kind of engagement with the Federation, it will make our league better,” former International and Kakamega Homeboyz Coach John Baraza added.
The coaches pushed to have clubs deposit copies of their contracts with the Federation to protect them during disputes. They also asked the Federation to give them priority for elite coaching courses.
