Nairobi, Kenya – May 26, 2024: The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee has made a determination on the abandoned Mozzart Bet Cup semi-final match between Police FC and AFC Leopards SC.

The match, played at the Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday, May 26th, was unfortunately halted in the 60th minute due to an injury sustained by Samuel Kuria, the second assistant referee. Kuria was struck by an object hurled by a fan, making it impossible for him to continue officiating and necessitating urgent medical attention.

Additionally, after calm was restored and by the time the match officials were ready to proceed with the match, the venue’s lack of floodlights posed significant safety concerns for all players, technical staff, supporters, and other stakeholders, preventing the match from resuming. As time passed, it became increasingly clear that resuming the match would compromise the well-being of those involved.

Under Articles 5.1 and 5.2 of the FKF Mozzart Bet Cup regulations, the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee has decided as follows:

  • The match shall resume from the 60th minute on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM, maintaining the score at the time of interruption.
  • The match will be played behind closed doors at the Police Sacco Stadium.

FKF has made arrangements to stream the match LIVE on its official digital media platforms.

The Federation remains committed to ensuring the safety of all stakeholders involved in its matches and will continue to work with relevant parties to provide safe and memorable experiences at all events.
