The FKF National Super League (NSL) 2023/24 season is set to offer a thrilling conclusion. With only two rounds remaining, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The title race, the battle for the promotion playoff spot, the fight to avoid relegation, and the golden boot race are all set to deliver a nail-biting finish.
Title Race
The question of who secures automatic promotion to the FKF Premier League has been answered, but the battle for the championship is not over. Mara Sugar and Mathare United are locked in a fierce contest for the top spot. Currently, Mara Sugar leads the table with a two-point advantage over Mathare United.
During the second leg of the season, Mara Sugar staged a remarkable resurgence, overtaking Mathare United and Naivas FC to claim the lead. This weekend, the two sides are set to clash at Mara Sugar’s home ground.
The stakes are high as both teams will desire to secure a win to keep their championship dreams alive. Mathare United will be making their immediate return to the FKF Premier League following their relegation from the 2022/23 season, while Mara Sugar will be making their debut in the top league.
Promotion Play-off Spot
Naivas FC, who topped the table after the first leg of the season, have seen their fortunes change. A resurgent Mara Sugar and a dip in form have seen them slip to third place with 69 points. Closest to them is Nairobi United, just one point behind.
The battle for the sole promotion playoff spot is intense. The team that finishes third will earn a chance to vie for promotion through a playoff with the 16th-placed team in the FKF Premier League.
This weekend, Naivas FC will face Gusii FC, while Nairobi United takes on Migori Youth. Both matches are crucial in determining who will get a shot at the FKF Premier League.
Relegation Battle
Silibwet FC and Gusii FC have already been relegated from the league however, Kajiado FC, Mulembe United and Mombasa Elite are working tirelessly to beat the drop.
Kajiado FC currently lie in the danger zone with 33 points one point behind Mulembe United on 17th place Mulembe United, while Mombasa Elite sits in 16th place with 35 points.
With two rounds left, every point counts for these teams.
Golden Boot Race
The race for the Golden Boot remains wide open. Philemon Nyakwaka’s 16 goals for Mara Sugar in the first leg of the season have kept him at the top of the scorers’ chart, despite his move to KCB FC.
However, Kisumu AllStars’ Michael Karamor closely follows with just one goal behind. Robert Karisa, Joel Kihara, and Emmanuel Lunalo are also in contention with 14 goals each.
The Golden Boot winner will more likely be decided on the final day of the season.
As the FKF National Super League 2023/24 season heads into its penultimate weekend, everything is at stake. Every goal, every point, and every match could make the difference.
