CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, alongside FKF President Nick Mwendwa and Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, conducted an inspection of key stadiums in Kenya ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) On Sunday, September 15, 2024.

The inspection included MISC Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums which are under-going renovations, as well as the under-construction Talanta Stadium. These venues are set to be central to Kenya’s role in the historic co-hosting of the prestigious tournament.

Kenya, together with Tanzania and Uganda, successfully secured the rights to host AFCON 2027. The trio of East African nations will welcome Africa’s football giants for the tournament, marking the first time East Africa will host the event. The inspected stadiums will play a crucial role in Kenya’s contribution to the tournament’s success, serving as match venues for the continental showcase.

AFCON 2027: A Continental Milestone

The upcoming tournament is not just a milestone for the participating teams, but also for East Africa as a region, which aims to boost its football infrastructure and promote the sport’s development. Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, with their long histories of hosting international fixtures, will be pivotal in the tournament. Meanwhile, Talanta Stadium is undergoing rapid development to meet the international standards set by CAF.

CAF President Dr. Motsepe expressed optimism about the region’s readiness, acknowledging the joint efforts of the three nations in ensuring that all preparations align with CAF’s vision for a successful AFCON.

CAF Executive Committee Meeting Set for Nairobi

Following the inspection, Dr. Motsepe is set to chair the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting at the Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi on Monday, September 16, 2024. This high-level meeting will address critical issues surrounding African football, including updates on AFCON 2027, ongoing competitions, and developmental projects within the continent.

The EXCO meeting highlights Nairobi’s increasing prominence in continental football affairs, especially as the city prepares to play host to teams, fans, and officials from across Africa in 2027.
