The CAF Safe Stadium Initiative workshop concluded today, Thursday, October 10, 2024 in Novotel Hotel Westlands.

The workshop marks a pivotal moment in the country’s football development as it seeks to ensure that security measures in stadiums meet international standards. With growing local and international interest in Kenyan football, the need for well-trained safety and security officers to ensure the safety of players, fans, and officials has become more pressing.

The training was led by two highly experienced CAF instructors: Xolile Nokuthula Vilakati, who works in CAF’s Safety and Security department, and Dixon Okello, a seasoned CAF Safety and Security instructor.

Their extensive expertise guided 40 participants made up of safety and security officers from the FKF Premier League (FKF PL), officials from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), private security personnel, and officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit.

The participants gained skills in crowd control, emergency management, and compliance with CAF safety standards. FKF National Safety and Security Officer Stephen Otieno will lead the nationwide rollout of the initiative, aiming to ensure consistent security protocols across all leagues.

This initiative ensures that stewards and security personnel are well-prepared to manage large crowds and emergencies while complying with CAF’s stringent safety measures, which are critical to hosting successful and safe football matches on the continent.

As this workshop closes, the lessons learned are expected to ripple across Kenyan stadiums, ensuring increased safety within our sporting arenas. The training is an integral part of CAF’s vision to promote professionalism, safety, and security in football environments, ensuring that the beautiful game remains a source of joy and unity for millions of fans.

The closing ceremony was presided over by FKF CEO Patrick Korir and CAF Head of Safety and Security Deaprtment Dr. Christian Emeruwa.
