The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed alongside CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and outgoing Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, concluded a series of high-profile activities today as part of the preparations for CHAN 2024.
The day began with a comprehensive tour of key sporting facilities earmarked for the tournament. The delegation, which included FKF President Hussein Mohammed, inspected Kasarani, Nyayo, Ulinzi Sports Complex, and Police Sacco Stadiums to evaluate the progress of infrastructure upgrades.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his satisfaction with the advancements. “I am impressed with the works going on, things are very different and moving on very well from when I was last here. I am impressed and the support shown by the government led by President William Ruto and the minister, Kipchumba Murkomen. I am confident Kenya alongside Uganda and Tanzania will host the best CHAN in the history of the tournament,” he said.
The tour culminated in a significant meeting at State House, where H.E. President Dr. William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring Kenya’s successful co-hosting of the tournament. Discussions focused on timelines, infrastructure, and Kenya’s readiness to welcome teams and fans from across the continent.
“Kenya is pulling all the stops to be ready to host the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in February 2025. Consequently, renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium are progressing according to plan. Ulinzi Sports Complex and Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, and Kirigiti Stadium (Kiambu), which will be used for training ahead of CHAN, are also under renovation and will be ready ahead of the championships.” Dr William Ruto said.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed extended gratitude to both the government and CAF for their support. “We thank the Government led by President William Ruto for the support and commitment and sincerely thank CAF led by the president Dr. Patrice Motsepe for the support and trust they’ve given Kenya. We promise we will deliver a successful tournament,” he said.
Outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen echoed similar sentiments. “CAF has really pushed us to ensure we deliver within the timelines and so far we are on good track. As a government, we are committed to ensuring we host a successful tournament,” he remarked.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other officials saw off Dr. Motsepe and his delegation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as the CAF President heads to Uganda to finalise his East African tour.
