The stage is set for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, as the official draw was conducted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Making their CHAN debut, Kenya has been drawn into Group A, where they will face opponents Morocco, DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia. While it’s a challenging group, Harambee Stars interim assistant coach John Kamau expressed optimism, saying, “This draw sets the stage for us to aim for a larger purpose, such as securing future World Cup qualifications. With good preparation, we believe we can rise to the occasion and make a mark on the continental stage.”
This year’s tournament marks a historic moment, as it will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—a first in the competition’s history. Initially planned for February 2025, the tournament was rescheduled to August 2025, allowing the three nations to prepare world-class infrastructure and facilities to host Africa’s premier domestic football stars.
CAF also announced a 75% increase in the prize money. The champions will now receive $3.5 million, with the total prize pool set at $10.4 million.
