Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed and Vice President McDonald Mariga today hosted representatives from FKF Premier League clubs at Kandanda House for a consultative meeting aimed at strengthening the league and enhancing its management.
The meeting focused on key areas, including sponsorship, officiating, club licensing, and the overall structure of the competition.
League Sponsorship & Awards
FKF confirmed ongoing discussions with potential sponsors, with updates to be provided in due course.
2024-25 Season Calendar
To allow proper planning for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August, clubs agreed that the FKF Premier League season will conclude by 31 May.
Officiating & Match-Fixing Legislation
Improving officiating and security standards remains a top priority. FKF outlined plans to enhance referee capacity through training programs and announced the fast-tracking of a draft bill to tackle match-fixing, with a draft expected in two months.
League Management & Club Licensing
Clubs agreed to hold structured consultative meetings every two months to address league management and governance. Additionally, the ongoing club licensing review will include workshops to support compliance and ensure all teams meet the required standards.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed emphasised the importance of these engagements in ensuring a more professional and structured league.
“Strengthening our league requires collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. These discussions are crucial in driving Kenyan football forward,” he said.
Mathare United CEO and FKF-PL clubs representative Jectan Obure echoed similar sentiments, reiterating the clubs’ commitment to working together for the betterment of the competition.
“This was a productive meeting, and as clubs, we are aligned on the need for structured engagement to address key areas affecting the league. A well-managed league benefits everyone – players, clubs, and fans,” he noted.
FKF and Premier League clubs reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a more competitive and professionally managed league. Regular engagements will continue to address emerging issues in the league.
