Rising Stars, The Kenya U20 men’s national team, has commenced the first three-day scouting mini camp today Monday, February 24, 2025 as part of its preparations for the upcoming AFCON U20 tournament, scheduled to take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025, in Ivory Coast.
This initial phase of this camp focuses on identifying talents predominantly from Nairobi and its environs as the technical bench seeks to strengthen the squad ahead of the continental showpiece.
The scouting exercise, spearheaded by head coach Salim Babu, is expected to provide an opportunity for young players to showcase their potential and stake a claim for selection into the final squad. With a competitive AFCON U20 tournament ahead, this camp serves as a crucial step in ensuring the Rising Stars assemble a formidable team.
A second scouting mini camp is scheduled to run from Monday, March 3 to Wednesday March 5, 2025 continuing the talent identification process across different regions. These sessions are integral in shaping the squad that will eventually represent the country.
Kenya has been placed in Group C with defending champions Senegal, Zambia and Sierra Leone, promising another fiercely contested group.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals along with the two best third-placed teams. From there, the tournament will proceed in a knockout format, culminating in the final on 18 May 2025. Additionally, the four semi-finalists will book their place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 later this year, continuing Africa’s proud tradition of excellence on the world stag
