The mid-season transfer window in the FKF Premier League serves as a crucial period where teams refine their squads, address weaknesses, and bolster their title or survival ambitions. The 2024/25 mid-season transfer window has been no different, with clubs making strategic moves to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the campaign. Among the most active clubs was Mara Sugar, Mathare United, FC Talanta, Kariobangi Sharks and Shabana FC with many inbound and outbound players.
Noteably, Shabana have brought in reinforcements in the from of former Kariobangi Sharks duo of Moses Shikanda and Keith Imbali and also bringing in Daglas Mokaya from Bidco United while also losing the services of Mathew Tegisi to Tanzania’s Pamba Jiji FC.
Gor Mahia FC have made high-profile signings. The club brought in Ugandan international Charles Bbaale from Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, Giscard Mavoungou from AS Otoho in Congo, and Patrick Essombe from Cameroon’s Union Sportive de Douala. Additionally, they promoted young talent Bryton Onyona from Gor Mahia Youth. Noteably, Benson Omala makes his return to the club from Lebanese side Al Safa.
Similarly, AFC Leopards made significant moves, reinforcing their squad by signing full back Fredrick Alushula from Kariobangi Sharks and recalling experienced midfielder Kevin Kimani and Christopher Koloti from Mathare United. They’ve also brought in the services of goalkeeper James Ssetuba from Kakamega Homeboyz.
Another team that took bold steps in the transfer market was Tusker FC. The Brewers secured the services of Ugandan international Denis Iguma, whose experience is expected to add defensive solidity to the team. Additionally, they signed winger Luke Namanda from AFC Leopards he comes back for another stint with the team, further strengthening their attacking options. However, they lost Shaphan Oyugi to Tanzania’s Kagera Sugar FC.
Kenya Police FC also made notable signings during the transfer window. In a move to bolster their squad, they signed Burundian David Irishura from Messager Ngozi FC and Timothy Oyanda from England’s AFC Wulfrunians. Another key signing of the midseason transfer was Mohamed Bajaber signing from Nairobi City Stars.
Meanwhile, Bandari FC strengthened its squad by signing experienced goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo from KCB FC, a move that adds depth to their goalkeeping department. They also secured the services of John Mark Makwata from Coastal Union SC in Tanzania, a striker known for his goal-scoring prowess. Kariobangi Sharks, for instance, made multiple signings, bringing in players like Faiz Opande Ouma from UAE’s Elite Falcons, young midfielder Price Musebe from Green Commandos as well as several homegrown talents from local academies. On the other hand, Bidco United added multiple players, including Henry Onyango from KCB and three players from Kariobangi Legends Youth FC. Posta Rangers, meanwhile, strengthened its defensive line by signing veteran defender Musa Mohammed from Kenya Police.
While many players moved within the FKF Premier League, some secured opportunities abroad. One of the most notable international transfers was Paul Jawa of Kariobangi Sharks, who moved to Fleury 91 in France. Additionally, Sofapaka’s Ronald Ssempala completed a move to Kabwe Warriors in Zambia.
As the second half of the FKF Premier League season unfolds, these transfers will play a crucial role in determining the outcomes of various competitions within the league. The title race is expected to intensify, with Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Kenya Police making significant reinforcements.
