The coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya, will play host to the inaugural edition of the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship, scheduled to take place from July 16 to July 20, 2025. Organized by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), this historic event marks a new chapter in regional football, spotlighting beach soccer as a growing sport within East and Central Africa.

A Historic First for the Region

This will be the first time CECAFA is organizing a beach soccer championship, with the event aiming to develop the sport further and offer national teams within the region a platform to compete at a high level. Mombasa, with its scenic beaches and rich sporting culture, provides the perfect backdrop for this fast-paced and exciting variation of the beautiful game.

Tournament Format and Groups

The tournament will feature seven teams, split into two groups:

  • Group A: Kenya, Malawi, Burundi, Zanzibar

  • Group B: Tanzania, Uganda, Seychelles

Group stage matches will be played over three days (July 16–18), with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals on July 19. The tournament will conclude with the third-place playoff and final on July 20.

This championship reflects CECAFA’s growing commitment to diversifying football development in the region. With the rise in popularity of beach soccer worldwide, especially in coastal nations, the 2025 edition offers participating countries a chance to build competitive squads and raise the sport’s profile at home.

Kenya, as hosts, will look to impress on home sand, while nations like Tanzania, Uganda, and Seychelles are expected to pose a serious challenge.
