Football Kenya Federation successfully hosted a three-day CAF-CECAFA Media Officers Workshop in Nairobi. Held from April 28 to 30, 2025, at the Swiss Lenana Mount Hotel, the workshop brought together 23 media officers from 11 CECAFA member associations, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Zanzibar.

The workshop, facilitated by CAF Media Manager Charlotte Pelagie Eyoum and CAF Consultant Mondher Chaouachi from Tunisia, focused on key areas including media operations, matchday reporting, venue inspection, media relations, accreditation processes, and crisis communication.

The sessions were highly interactive, allowing participants to engage in peer learning through shared experiences and group assignments. Additionally, practical components such as stadium visits provided hands-on learning opportunities to reinforce the concepts discussed.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed, speaking during the opening ceremony, emphasized the importance of effective communication in football development.

“This workshop—the first of its kind in the CECAFA Zone—is more than just a meeting; it is a commitment to professionalism and continuous learning. As media officers, you play a crucial role in shaping and positively propagating the narrative of football across the continent,”.

CECAFA Vice President and South Sudan Football Association president Gen. Augustino Maduot Parek, urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to elevate media standards within their federations.

“Let it influence your daily work. Let it raise the standards in your federations. Let it serve as an example for others. And let it be a stepping stone to even greater achievements in your careers,” said Maduot.

The workshop also featured virtual remarks from Lux September, Acting Director and Head of TV and Communications at CAF, who encouraged participants to implement their newfound knowledge in their respective roles.

As the CECAFA region prepares to host major tournaments such as the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the workshop served as a timely initiative to bolster the communication capabilities of national federations.
