The 2024/25 season is a season to remember for Nairobi United. Just weeks after being crowned FKF National Super League champions, the newly promoted side has now added the Mozzart Bet Cup to their growing trophy cabinet, defeating Gor Mahia 2-1 in a thrilling final at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

Their historic cup victory also secures them a place in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup, marking a sensational rise from second-tier football to the continental stage in just one season.

What began as a promising cup campaign for Nairobi United soon turned into an unforgettable journey. The newly promoted side stormed through the competition with an unmatched fighting spirit, eliminating top-tier FKF Premier League sides including Tusker FC, KCB, Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz before toppling Gor Mahia in the grand finale.

From penalty shootout heroics to late-match comebacks, Nairobi United’s run was a masterclass in resilience and belief. Few gave them a chance, but they punched way above their weight and made history.

Ernest Muhammed: Hero Between the Posts

The hero between the posts, Ernest Muhammed, played a pivotal role in Nairobi United’s cup success. His composure in 3 penalty shootouts and crucial saves in open play — including a penalty stop in the final — earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Other Individual Awards

While Nairobi United lifted the cup, standout performers across the tournament were recognized:

Gor Mahia’s Gad Mathews took home the golden glove accolade, having kept four clean sheets and delivered a consistent campaign in goal.

Meanwhile, Brian Michira Migiro of Shabana FC finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals.

Murang’a Seal Claim Bronze

In the third-place playoff held earlier at the same venue, Murang’a Seal edged past Mara Sugar with a narrow 1-0 victory to claim third place in the competition. Despite their struggles in the FKF Premier League, the cup provided a glimmer of hope, with the team falling just short of a place in the final after a hard-fought penalty shootout loss to Gor Mahia in the semifinals.

Eyes on the Continent

With promotion to the FKF Premier League and a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup now confirmed, Nairobi United’s double-winning season is one for the history books. From second-tier contenders to national champions, they’ve proven that dreams do come true — and they’re only just getting started. They now join FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC, who will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, as Kenya’s flagbearers on the continental stage.
