Kenya wrapped up their CHAN PAMOJA 2024 group campaign in style with a 1-0 victory over Zambia at a packed Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday 17th August.

Ryan Ogam struck the decisive goal in the 75th minute, finishing calmly from a Boniface Muchiri cross to hand the Harambee Stars their third win in four matches. The result ensured Kenya topped Group A with 10 points, finishing unbeaten and conceding only once in the group stage.

Head coach Benni McCarthy praised his players for their determination and focus in closing out the group strongly.

“When everybody said Group of Death, we would probably have had zero points after four games, but we found ourselves sitting on top of the mountain. Now we really want to enjoy that view,” he said.

Defender Daniel Sakari highlighted the impact of the fans, who turned out in large numbers at Kasarani.

“The support from the fans has been massive. They push us in every game, and today their energy really carried us through,” Sakari noted.

The Harambee Stars will now remain in Nairobi for their quarter-final clash against Madagascar on Friday, carrying strong momentum and the advantage of home support into the knockout stage.
