SportPesa Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia kicked off their CAF Confederations Cup Group D campaign with a resounding 4-2 come from behind win over Egyptian side Zamalek.

The hosts were stunned early in the match when Zamalek took the lead through Hassan Ibrahim, who sent in a low drive from a setpiece that didn’t seem dangerous at first.

Jacques Tuyisenge then restored parity in the 25th minute after being set up by Francis Kahata from the left flank. Tuyisenge would nod in a header for Gor Mahia’s second, a goal that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.

At the stroke of halftime, however, Hassan Ibrahim made the most of a napping Gor Mahia defense to beat Gor keeper Boniface Oluoch at his near post, the first half ending 2-2.

Gor showed attacking intent upon resumption and were duly rewarded when Nicholas Kipkirui got to the end of a Tuyisenge cross to nod in the third goal, his first on the continental scene.

Second half substitute Dennis Oliech would put the game beyond the guests reach with a minute left on the clock when he rounded the keeper and slotted into an empty net for Gor Mahia’s fourth.

Up next for K’ogallo is an away trip to Angola to face Petro Atletico.
