Ethiopia received a 4-1 hiding at the hands of Burundi in their second Group B match of the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge cup played on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Pierre Kwizera had given Burundi the lead on the half-hour mark, only for Dawa Hotessa to restore parity from the spot at the stroke of halftime for a 1-1 scoreline as the teams headed for the breather.

Upon resumption, Burundi proved clinical despite Ethiopia’s dominance in ball possession. Three goals by Cedrick Urasenga, Laudit Mavugo and Shassir Nahimana saw Burundi claim a 4-1 win, the biggest scoreline of the 2017 edition.

Meanwhile, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Zanzibar came from a goal down to edge out Tanzania 2-1. Himid Mao had given Tanzania a 28th-minute lead, only for Kassim Khamis to equalize after coming off the bench. Ibrahim Ahmada would then score with 10 minutes left on the clock to hand Zanzibar their second win of the tourney.

In the succeeding match played at the same venue, Libya and Rwanda played out a goalless stalemate. The draw was the third for the guest team, Libya, who haven’t scored nor conceded yet with three matches played.

One match will be played on Friday, December 8, 2017. Uganda will be up against South Sudan at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega starting 3 pm.
