Mwingi Juniors are the Eastern Region Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Tournament champions. The lads from Kitui beat Taqwa FC from Isiolo 5-4 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Mwingi Juniors settled first in the match and dominated early proceedings. They took the lead at the hour mark, Erick Zakayo powering in a powerful header. They, however, suffered a setback a few minutes later as John Musyoki was sent off for a second bookable offense.

    Second half

Taqwa’s Abdulah Abdisalan, who had been really impressive as the team continued to push for an equalizer, was sent off in the 51st minute after picking a second yellow. The Isiolo-based side, however, managed to get an equalizer in the 61st minute through Hussein Abdijabar. They continued to push and thought they had scored the winner in the 71st minute but the goal was disallowed.

    Post-match penalties

The match ended 1-1 in regular time and went straight into post-match penalties. Mwingi Juniors custodian Ambrose Kathini saved one penalty to help the team sail through to the National finals set for Nairobi in March 2018. They also got Ksh 200,000 and a trophy for the win while the losers got Ksh 100,000 and a trophy as well.
