The Kenya U23 national football team, the Emerging Stars, has on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, jetted back from Mauritius where the team gained qualification to the second round of the Olympics Qualifiers.

Kenya edged out Mauritius 3-1 in the second leg, four days after brushing aside the island nation 5-0 at the MISC Kasarani to book a date with either of Sudan or Seychelles.

Coach Francis Kimanzi picked positives from the qualifier, noting that their focus is on putting up a better performance in the second round.

“We have put this (the win over Mauritius) behind us. Our focus is to get ourselves ready for the second round and I’m confident well do better than we did in the first round,” said coach Kimanzi.

Kenya is scheduled to face off with either of Sudan or Seychelles in the second round in March 2019, with a third round, against either of Nigeria or Libya, also in line.

The winner on aggregate in the third round will grace the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt, which will act as a qualifier to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan.
