Curtains came down on a first of its kind, four-day Goalkeeping Course rolled out by Football Kenya Federation from Monday, February 26, 2018, to Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Kenya School of Special Education.
The course, conducted by German UEFA Goalkeeper Instructor Frank Thieltges, targeted Kenyan Premier League, National Super League, and Women Premier League goalkeeper trainers, with an aim of capacity building of the coaches.

54 local goalkeeper trainers (16 KPL, 20 NSL, 14 WPL and 4 former Kenyan internationals) took part in the course. Among participating coaches included former Kenyan Internationals Wilson Oburu Obungu, Jerry Onyango, Francis Onyiso and Soya Award Winner Rosemary Achieng.
Also taking part was Posta Rangers Goalkeeper trainer Lawrence Webo, who lauded the Federation for taking up the initiative.

“I wish to thank FKF for conducting the course. It is a first of its kind, and will go a long way in helping us produce better goalkeepers for the near future,” said Webo.
The course arose out of the need to build capacity and improve on goalkeeper training which has not been given priority in the past.

It is part of FKF’s football development program which aims at building capacity and offering technical skills transfer to our local coaches, key in developing the game both at the grassroots and national level.
Further, FKF has lined up a follow-up course scheduled for early next year. The trained coaches, moreover, will not only be considered for National team duties as goalkeeper trainers but will also be deployed as trainers of other goalkeeper trainers.
