The FKF Premier League 2023/24 season reaches its midpoint, and as the league table begins to take shape, several captivating narratives emerge, setting the stage for the second half of the season.

Title Race

Defending champions Gor Mahia have risen to the top of the standings, displacing early leaders Posta Rangers. They have managed to create a 7-point gap at the summit, remaining undefeated in the season so far.

Despite a sluggish start to the season, Nairobi City Stars’ remarkable 6-match winning streak has pushed them to second place. As it stands, matchday 11 appears to be their turning point. At this time last season, they were in 16th place with 12 points, a stark contrast to the 30 points they boast of currently.

Posta Rangers, who enjoyed a steady start to the season, topped the table from matchday 3 to 12. However, they have now slipped down to third place owing to only getting 4 points out of a possible 15 in their last five matches.

Relegation Battle

At the other end of the table, a relegation fight is unfolding. Sofapaka currently sits in the relegation play-off spot, tied in points with Ulinzi Stars on 17 points, who are slightly out of the danger zone at 15th place.

Meanwhile, newcomers Shabana have had a turbulent campaign since their promotion. They currently find themselves positioned 17th with 14 points, as Nzoia Sugar is placed last. The Millers have been unable to replicate their previous season’s success, where they finished third.

Individual Standouts: Top Scorers and Goalkeepers

Benson Omalla leads the Golden Boot race with nine goals, trailed by Bonface Muchiri, Moses Shummah, Vincent Owino, and Awita Batts, all tied at six goals each.

In the goalkeeping department, Gor Mahia’s Kevin Omondi has racked up 11 clean sheets, while Tusker’s Brian Bwire follows closely with 9 clean sheets.

Mid-Season Transfer Window

The mid-season transfer window has been opened on Monday, January 8, 2024, for the FKF Premier League. Clubs can beef up their squads as they proceed to the second leg of the 2023/24 season before the window closes on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 1700 hrs.
