Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has confirmed CEO Robert Muthomi’s decision to step aside pending investigation into allegations surrounding his involvement in the purported transfer of Sofapaka forward John Avire to an undisclosed club in Egypt.
This as he revealed the Federation’s decision to appoint Head of Communications and Marketing, Barry Otieno, to act in the General Secretary’s capacity during the period of investigation.
“I have accepted the request from Robert that he steps aside starting today to allow the FKF Disciplinary committee to independently follow due process,” said FKF President Nick Mwendwa.
“I want to be clear that the Federation will maintain fairness to all parties involved to ensure that the committee independently carries out its mandate to its logical conclusion,” added the FKF President.
FKF CEO Robert Muthomi had on Sunday requested to step aside following the allegations fronted by Sofapaka FC in a letter to the Federation.
In a press statement in regards to the same, FKF acknowledged the allegations, consequently launching internal investigations to look into the matter with a view of ensuring justice and fairness for all the parties involved.
“Any person found culpable will be held responsible, in accordance with the FKF disciplinary code. Most importantly, for the avoidance of doubt and for the good of the game, we wish to reiterate that John Avire, remains a Sofapaka FC player with a valid contract running till December 31, 2020,” clarified the Federation in a statement signed by Head of Communications and Marketing, Barry Otieno.
It is now up to the Disciplinary committee to take up the matter to its conclusion.
