Former Kenyan international Ali Abondo has urged retired players to take up coaching and mentor the next generation of players.
Abondo was speaking in Buruburu at the opening of a CAF D coaching course organized by the Football Kenya Federation Nairobi East Branch. He is one of the 42 students taking the course.
The opening ceremony was presided over by FKF Vice President Doris Petra and graced by FKF CEO Barry Otieno, FKF NEC Members Michael Majua and Anthony Makau, and FKF Chairman Nairobi East Amos Wakili, and Secretary Dickson Doyo.
Abondo said former players can combine coaching skills with their own experiences to nurture football talent and improve football in the country.
“Former players have the skills and experiences to make a difference to young players. This can be our way of giving back to the community.”
FIFA/FKF instructors George Mwangi, and Salim Ali will run the ten-day course. The Federation is also running two other CAF D coaching courses in Trans Nzoia and Kajiado with 25 and 30 coaches respectively.
Capacity building of coaches is one of the Federation’s key pillars, in which, the coaches gain proper knowledge and skills which they transfer to the young players who will grow in their football careers with the acquired skills and knowledge and in the long run, raise the standards of football in the country.
