Gor Mahia will on Sunday, January 13, 2019, face off with Cameroonian side New Star de Douala in the playoff round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The SportPesa Premier League defending champions got a lifeline in the second tier continental club competition following their elimination from the CAF Champions League at the hands of Lobi Stars and will be going all out to make the chance count.

Coach Hassan Oktay has expressed confidence in his charges despite the absence of captain Harun Shakava and defender Joash Onyango through suspension, noting that the players he has at his disposal will give their all.

“We have enough quality in our squad and the players I have will give 100 per cent,” said the coach.

“This match is a Kenyan affair, not only for Gor Mahia. I am therefore appealing to all Kenyans to come out and support us tomorrow since a win will be a big result for Kenya,” he added.

His New Star de Douala counterpart Gerrard Mbimi, meanwhile, asserted that his team is upbeat and will not sit back, but will instead try and find an away goal.

“We won’t sit back. We will attack and try to get an away goal. That is our strategy and I am optimistic that we will go back home with all three points,” he said.

The match kicks off at 4 pm at the MISC Kasarani. Ticket prices have been set at KES 200 Terraces and KES 500 VIP, and will be sold at Kenya Cinema, Ngomongo Police Station, Opposite Safari Park Hotel, as well as Kasarani Stadium’s Gate 12 and 2.

The second leg has been slated for January 20, 2019, in Douala, Cameroon, with the winner of the match on aggregate set to grace the Group Stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.
